Ikebana

I study under an instructor trained in the Sogestsu school of Ikebana. Most of the arrangements that are on this site are freestyle arrangements in this style. I have completed the second of four levels of the beginning curriculum.

I like to use seasonal combinations of fresh and dried materials to draw the viewer’s eye through the arrangement. I enjoy looking for materials in my garden and on the street to supplement purchases of more exotic plants.  I tend to use traditional ceramic containers for most arrangements but also look for interesting containers at thrift stores which would be just right for a certain arrangement or material. Recently I have begun doing some Ikebana installations on the street and in public parks which I sometimes photograph. As these usually take place at night you can tell which arrangements these are because the photos are grainier.

I am a member of the Sogetsu School Branch of Portland and Ikebana International.
